The
U. S. Coast Guard and most states publish a pamphlet that lists
the equipment that you are legally required to carry on board your
vessel – but does this mean that you are now safe? It
is easy to spend large amounts of money on the latest in safety
equipment - but if you and your crew are unfamiliar with where
it is, how it works, or even how to deal with the emergency - disaster
will surely follow. Also, nothing happens exactly how you
practiced or trained for it. Therefore,
the single most important factor in any emergency is you. How
you react is going to determine the outcome of your incident.
